After my Shark canister vac finally bit the dust, this was the only canister vac I could find after going to several stores. That was the main reason I bought it. We have four short hair dogs, two of which shed quite a bit. I have used this vacuum about a dozen times now and if the floor has more than a day or two worth of hair buildup, the hair just collects on the brush, it doesn’t suck up into the vacuum. The first time it happened, I couldn’t figure out why all of a sudden the vacuum wasn’t picking anything up. So I turned the suction head upside down and found it completely clogged with dog hair. I ended up pulling out about a softball sized wad of hair out of the head by the time I was done. My Shark never had a problem picking up the hair or with clogging so I know it’s not just that we have too much hair (too many dogs, yes – but a reasonable amount of hair for a vacuum to handle). I also have the Roomba IRobot and it handles our floors without missing a beat. This Dirt Devil is a giant waste of money. You might as well just open your doors and hope that the hair blows outside. Our whole house is hardwood or tile so I can’t comment on how this would perform on carpet.
Edited to add: Just about a week after I posted this review, the “power nozzle” motor no longer works. Beyond actually bringing in new dirt and dumping it on my floor, I’m not sure how this product could get any worse.

Very disappointed with this product. It makes a noise like a jet engine about to take off, the vacuum head is heavy and cumbersome to manoever; the cord is ridiculously short, but worse out of all, it doesnt pick up small bits on carpet, eg fluff, threads, beads and generally the bits you are trying to vacuum up, its not that it moves them around or pushes them out of the way – it just does not pick them up at all!
Took it back to the store after 1 day.

When I ordered this, I saw 3 1-star reviews. I went ahead and ordered because I don’t have any pets and this is the only canister with power nozzle in my budget. I was totally wrong! Packing is very poor, machine is very loud, heavy to carry around, and **doesn’t not pick up** what I wanted to clean on the carpet. Dust won’t stay in the dustbin, rather made themselves balls in the filter. So when I emit the dust, there was no dust in the bin. I had to pull the dust balls from filter. Very messy and time consuming!! I cannot turn the machine off from handle, rather walk to the main machine and turn off. Roller is so small. Do yourself a favor by not buying this awful machine. You’ll be happy to avoid to hassle return (Amazon wanted me to take it back to post office and will reimburse up to $20). Not sure it is enough for postage.

I purchased this vacuum for it’s relatively reasonable price and features. I wish that I had followed my intuition; that you do indeed get what you pay for. This vacuum has very few pros, so I will address them first. I have some lighter wieght area rugs where the variable suction is a great feature. It has pretty good suction and does well on bare floors. The brush attachment has a cool swivel head that allows you to manuever it for varying positions. That pretty much sums up the pros.
Right out of the box, a plastic cord retainer was broken. It was meant to stabilize the cord that you MUST disconnect before emtying the dust collecter. Just poor design, in my estimation. A few weeks later the female retainer for that connection snapped making it a challenge to reconnect. The nozzle hose is quite stiff, but worse is the swivel mechanisms to manuever the powerhead. The powerhead is pretty poorly designed and is not good on carpet which is what it is really designed for. It hangs up pushing forward, regardless of how high you set it. Be forewarnd that ANY bagless system will require you to vacuum clean the hepa filter after EACH use. If you only have one vacuum that can be tricky. Get two filters so you can interchange them. IT is ALWAYS messy! I would recommend highly against bagless vacuums. As I was attempting to remove the debris from the internal hepa filter, I inadvertantly dropped the containter where the hanldle snapped off quite easily. This rendered the vacuum totally useless until such time as I was able to epoxy the handle back into position. I may be able to beef up the weak design by adding some miracle putty.
Essentially, I would not recommend this, unless you just enjoy challenges.

I had looked forward to using this vacuum. However, it turned out to be a frustrating experience, because I could not remove the the power nozzle from the extension wand. Thus I was unable to use any of the other attachments. The phone consultant was of no help, and it was a long time before I received an email response.By that time, I had managed to cram the vacuum into its carton-difficult because I could not completely remove the power nozzle-and return it to Amazon. I have stopped payment on this product.
